My name is Dane Rousay, a drummer and composer based in San Antonio, Texas. I work mostly by improvising on acoustic drum-kit, looking for exciting or emotional overlaps of rhythm, speed, and texture.
My newest work is "blip", a series of chance compositions aiming to magnify the minimalist percussion performance with a bold and enveloping sound. Like much of my work, it involves a duet of precision and accident. Recorded live, it is my debut album on percussion and drum-kit and I hope you enjoy it. I host a weekly radio hour, The Whatever Show, on Trinity University’s KRTU that showcases independent or overlooked experimental music from throughout the world. Because of a fear of sitting still, I also spend my free time running Rat Tail Tapes, releasing collaborations and experimental work from artists like Svetlana Zwetkof, Kirstian Barboza and Cameron Taylor.
I am also available for percussion lessons, preferring to teach intermediate and advanced students. Extended technique lessons are my forte. With experience performing with Performing Arts of San Antonio, North East School of the Arts, and Castle Hills Baptist Church, I am a gun-for-hire on your next concert or recording. Please check the Upcoming section of this site for a calendar of my solo performances, and a slew of dates with rock/pop/experimental bands I play with.
